To keep abreast of current research and good practice, the English Consultancy Group engage with professionals from the Institute of Education, The Open University, UKLA, Exeter University and excellent practitioners across primary, secondary and secondary schools. Our consultants provide a range of professional development opportunities for teachers and schools to support them in improving attainment, engagement and enjoyment in reading and writing. They are accredited trainers for Reading Recovery, Developing Comprehension through Inference Training and Grammar for Writing and are the developers of the successful Switch-on literacy intervention.
Free School Meals and Milk
The Government recognises the benefits of providing a healthy school meal to the most disadvantaged pupils. The Education Act 1996 requires maintained schools and academies to provide free school meals to disadvantaged pupils who are aged between 5 and 16 years old. We want to make sure as many eligible pupils as possible are claiming their free school meals, and we want to make it as easy as possible for schools. NCC uses the Department for Education free schools meals eligibility checking system to determine eligibility. Parents only need to provide their National Insurance Number or National Asylum Support Service Reference Number, surname and date of birth. NCC can carry out these assessments for academy and special schools. These schools can request a quote for this service below.

The Virtual School
The virtual school in Nottinghamshire has a key role to ensure that children in and previously in care have the maximum opportunity to reach their full educational potential. In Nottinghamshire we recognise that working with colleagues in education and social care who build the capacity in the teams around the children has the most impact. We have created training to support schools and Designated Teacher’s for Children in Care to fulfil their roles.
